Mercedes can very well imagine Mick Schumacher’s involvement in Formula 1.

Abu Dhabi – “He’s German, he’s an incredibly good match for the star. I think he deserves a place in Formula 1 and now we have to see if we can do that,” Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff told Sky TV before the last Grand Prix of the year in Abu Dhabi.

Wolff again referred to the close connection between Mercedes and the Schumacher family and at the same time to the priority of the son of record world champion Michael Schumacher: The 23-year-old could still have a mini-chance of a regular cockpit for 2023 at Williams. However, the prerequisite would be that the preferred candidate Logan Sargeant in Formula 2 does not get the necessary points for his Formula 1 driver’s license.

Mick Schumacher has to leave Haas after two years. Mercedes has occupied its regular cockpits with Lewis Hamilton and George Russell. Schumacher could gain experience as a reserve driver. “Mick could really learn to work with such a team,” said uncle Ralf Schumacher. His brother Michael Schumacher drove the last three years of his Formula 1 career for the Silver Arrows. dpa
