Anderlecht won the Belgian Cup in women’s football for the eleventh time in its club history in the AFAS Stadium in Mechelen on Saturday. The Brussels women beat Standard 3-0. Sarah Wijnants, Sakina Ouzraoui (85.) and star player Tessa Wullaert provided the goals.
Anderlecht succeeds AA Gent on the honors list of the Belgian Cup. The Ghent women defeated Standard 2-0 in 2019, in Denderleeuw. In 2020, the cup final, then also between Anderlecht and Standard, was ultimately not played due to the corona pandemic. Last year, the women’s cup competition was discontinued in January. The corona crisis was also the culprit here.

Anderlecht’s last cup victory was in 2013, when Waasland Beveren-Sinaai Girls were defeated 3-0. In 2016 and 2017, the Purple & White still played the final, but Lierse (2-1) and Gent (3-1) were too strong respectively. The previous cup victories of Anderlecht (and its predecessor Brussels D71) came in 1984, 1985, 1987, 1991, 1994, 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2005.
For Wullaert it was possibly her last piece of art in the colors of Anderlecht, at least for now. The Purple & White star is flirting with a transfer this summer.
