Set in 1951, this romantic drama follows a young woman (Saoirse Ronan) who moves from Ireland to Brooklyn in search of a better future. There she falls in love with an Italian-American named Tony. But when a death in her family brings her back to Ireland, she must decide if she ever wants to return to Brooklyn — and to the man she left behind.
With “Brooklyn” John Crowley proved to the film world that even a country as small as Ireland can make great cinema. The film adaptation of Irish writer Colm Tóibín’s popular novel received three Oscar nominations, including Best Picture.
Saoirse Ronan, who stars alongside Domnhall Gleeson in Brooklyn, has four Oscar nominations at just 28, one of them deservedly for Brooklyn. At the latest since the literary adaptation, everyone is sure that Saiorse Ronan still has a great career ahead of him (she received her first Oscar nomination at the age of just 13 for “Atonement”).
“Brooklyn” is available to stream on Disney+. The film can be rented on Apple TV+. Here’s the movie!
