LUIS ARCE WILL PROPOSE STRENGTHENING OF CELAC AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO THE OAS

Bolivian President Luis Arce will propose, at the VI Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac), that this regional bloc be strengthened as an alternative to the Organization of American States (OAS). «The oas has lost all validity, it does not have the representation to do the work that corresponds to Celac. For this it is important that from the countries we start thinking about giving Celac a certain institutional framework so that it can coordinate with the different states, “said the Bolivian ambassador to the UN, Diego Pary. Celac is the only agreement mechanism that permanently brings together the 33 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean. (ABI)

116 SOCIAL LEADERS REPORT KILLED IN COLOMBIA IN 2021

The Institute for Development and Peace Studies (Indepaz) reported the murder of Marcos Tulio Gutiérrez Mendoza, bringing the total number of social leaders killed in 2021 to 116. Gutiérrez was killed by armed men in the Luisiana de Lejanías village. The Ombudsman’s Office issued ten alerts for the department of Meta, warning of actions by various groups related to homicides, threats, and displacement, among other types of violence. Likewise, the Catatumbo Peasant Association denounced the threats suffered by human rights defenders and social leaders in the territory, by the so-called Gaitanista Self-Defense Forces of Colombia. PUTIN AFFIRMS THAT THE PRESENCE OF FOREIGN TROOPS IS THE BIGGEST PROBLEM IN SYRIA

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with his Syrian counterpart Bashar al-Assad in the Kremlin and praised his efforts to improve dialogue with his political opponents, noting that “only the consolidation of all forces in Syria It will allow the country to rise up and begin progressive development. BRAZILIAN JUSTICE FILES ACCUSATION OF INFLUENCE TRAFFICKING AGAINST LULA

In the absence of evidence of an influence peddling accusation against former Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, a São Paulo court decided to close the investigations involving the Brazilian construction company OAS, implicated in several corruption cases.
