Substitute Alexis Saelemaekers helps Milan to a ticket for the quarterfinals in Coppa Italia, at the expense of Zinho Vanheusden

AC Milan qualified for the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia on Thursday evening. In the eighth finals, Milan beat Genoa in San Siro: 3-1 after extra time.

Our compatriot Alexis Saelemaekers started on the bench with the Milanese and was allowed to replace Junior Messias after 80 minutes. Moments earlier, Olivier Giroud had scored the equalizer for Milan, Genoa had taken the lead after 17 minutes after a goal by Leo Ostigard. Zinho Vanheusden completed the game for the visitors.

1-1 was also the score after regular time and so extra time had to decide. Rafael Leao provided the redemption for the Rossoneri after 102 minutes with the 2-1. In the second extension, Saelemaekers (112.) made it 3-1. Three minutes later, the Red Devil ran into a yellow card.

Earlier on Thursday, Napoli already died in the eighth finals of the Italian Cup. After extra time, despite a goal from Dries Mertens, they lost 2-5 to Fiorentina.
