The Secretary of Energy, Darío Martínez, and the Undersecretary of Electric Energy, Federico Basualdo, held a meeting with the authorities of the company China Electric Power Equipment and Technology Co., Ltd. (CET), and its branch CET Argentina

Amid record demand for electrical power due to heat spikes, The Government announced today an investment of US $ 1.1 billion to expand transportation, which is the main bottleneck in the sector. The works will be financed by a Chinese company. In this way, the disbursements of that country in energy projects in Argentina are expanded, such as the financing of the dams in Santa Cruz and the interest in promoting two nuclear power plants and the gas pipeline that will connect Vaca Muerta with Bahía Blanca.

The Secretary of Energy, Dario Martinez, and the Undersecretary of Electric Energy, Federico Basualdo, signed the agreement with the company China Electric Power Equipment and Technology (CET) for the conformation of the contract for the engineering design, supply and construction of the work “Improvement project for the 500 kV National Network in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area, Stage I”, As indicated by the energy portfolio in a statement.

The objective is build a new transformer station and more than 500 kilometers of high and extra high voltage power lines in the metropolitan area of Buenos Aires (AMBA). “The investment of more than US $ 1,100 million will be possible thanks to the collaboration, joint work and cooperation between Argentina and China”, Said Martínez and highlighted“ the excellent joint collaboration of the Argentine government and the Chinese government, with the work that the technical teams of both the Chinese embassy and the Argentine embassy in China have done ”.

“This is a fundamental and strategic work to consolidate the electrical system of the metropolitan area and guarantee a safe supply for the entire metropolitan population. Getting financing is vital. It is an extraordinary investment and a great bet for the future that requires taking these previous steps ”, highlighted the Undersecretary of Electric Energy, Federico Basualdo.

The project will reinforce the AMBA energy ring through the construction of a new node, the Plomer 500/220/132 kV transformer station (ET), given that the Ezeiza and General Rodríguez ETs already operate at the limit of their capacity in terms of load, and will expand the entry of electric power from the Argentine interconnection system (SADI) through the laying of more than 500 km of high voltage in 500kV, 220kV and 132kV, as explained in the statement.

“The new Plomer substation will supply part of the demand now covered by the Ezeiza substation, allowing it to reduce its load and mitigating the short-circuit level in the 220 and 500 kV busbars. For its part, the new 500 km high-voltage line will increase the number of corridors for the entry of electric energy to the AMBA from the south and the north, especially enabling access to new energies of renewable origin “, they pointed out.

The new power lines will improve the supply conditions of the installed demand in the Luján, Mercedes, Zappalorto and Casanova substations, “reducing the possibility of cuts and avoiding non-supplied energy (ENS) in the AMBA energy ring. The work foresees the updating of the SADI systems, both automatic response and cybersecurity, in the prevention of new challenges ”.
