On Tuesday lunchtime, a 78-year-old Mercedes driver in Stralsund was seriously injured while evading a slow-moving street cleaning machine.

As a police spokesman announced on Wednesday, the 78-year-old who caused the accident was brought to hospital on Tuesday with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

The woman was out in Heinrich-Heine-Ring around 11.30 a.m. when she saw the sweeper too late.

During an evasive maneuver, she wanted to switch to the left lane with her Mercedes and collided with a Kia that was driving next to it. Then she crashed into the cleaning vehicle after all.

The drivers of the other vehicles were uninjured.

The investigations into the exact cause of the accident continued.
