The former coordinator of the Bloco de Esquerda (BE) Francisco Louçã said on Saturday night that the Government is excited to hand over TAP to private individuals who, in the past, have already shown how they can destroy the airline.
“The Government is excited to deliver this [TAP] to the private ones, the right is very satisfied, the extreme right opens bottles of champagne and the liberals bathe in champagne in the middle of all this party because Lufthansa, British Airways, Iberia or whatever is going to stay with TAP, someone will stay with TAP, wonderful because the private ones manage well”, said the blogger at the party’s anniversary dinner at the Associação de Moradores da Bouça, in Porto.
Francisco Louçã recalled that TAP had already been in private hands, referring to Alfredo Casimiro (from Groundforce) and David Neeleman (former shareholder of TAP). “All they did was show what private individuals can do to destroy a company that is a public good,” he said.
And he added: “If energy is a public good, if quality transport from trains to planes are goods that serve the country, they are public goods and can be treated as they wish, but there is one thing that never changes, namely that it is a public good for the public and on behalf of the public.”
