When Oscar Grant (Michael B. Jordan) wakes up in the city of Oakland on the morning of December 31, 2008, he suspects that this is not going to be an ordinary day. Without being able to make out exactly why, he takes his diffuse feeling as an opportunity to tackle his New Year’s resolutions a little earlier. Being a better son to his mother, being more honest with his girlfriend, from whom he’s been hiding things lately, and spending more time with his four-year-old daughter. As the day progresses, he encounters old friends, acquaintances and strangers, who reveal more about Oscar’s personality in their conversations and hints. But it was the momentous encounter with police officers at the crowded Fruitvale subway station that shook the region to its core and made the entire nation a witness to Oscar Grant’s tragic story.
“Fruitvale Station” is based on a true story and put Michael B. Jordan in the public eye for the first time as a serious leading actor. It was also his first collaboration with director Ryan Coogler, with whom he directed Creed and Black Panther.
