The Ministry of Sports will offer its support to the ninth version of the Cabalgata de Las Mariposas, with the slogan “No violence against women”, which will be held on June 5 in the municipalities of Salcedo and Tenares, in the Hermanas Mirabal province.
Eight hundred horsemen from all over the country will participate in the activity, in memory of the legacy of the sisters Patria, Minerva and María Teresa Mirabal, the heroines vilely murdered by the regime of the tyrant Rafael Trujillo.
The details of the parade were offered by the executive vice president of the organizing committee, Linabel González, during a meeting with the press held this Tuesday at the Dominican Sports Hall of Fame.
The Minister of Sports, Francisco Camacho, was represented by the head of the Technical Directorate of Miderec, Neftalí Ventura, who shared the table of honor with the mayor of Salcedo, María Mercedes Ortiz, and the lieutenant colonel of the Republic Air Force Dominican Republic, Dominga Madé Zabala, representing the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Díaz Morfa.

He stated that the horsemen will depart at 9:00 in the morning from the house-museum of the Mirabal Sisters, in Conuco, and for about three hours they will cross rivers and travel natural paths en route to the historical, cultural and natural beauty points of the province.
“The parade will visit places in the main province and Tenares where there are historical monuments built in honor of the Mirabal Sisters,” explained González, executive director of the Office for the Development of Women of that demarcation.
He recalled that the Cavalcade of the Butterflies has been held since 2012 every first Saturday in June for the elimination of violence against women, the promotion of healthy lifestyles and for a culture of peace and development, “and this year coincides with the World Environment Day”.
“The organizing committee of the Cabalgata de Las Mariposas this year dedicates the event to the Ministry of Defense for its efforts to eradicate gender violence, and also to three of the most active women every year: Irene Martínez, from El Seibo, María González, from Salcedo, and Sylvie Raes, from Puerto Plata-Belgium ”, stated the organizer.
