The Tverskoy Court of Moscow on Wednesday night chose house arrest for the rector of the Moscow Higher School of Social and Economic Sciences – “Shaninki” Sergei Zuev.
As the press secretary of the Tverskoy court Olga Bondareva told the “RG” correspondent, thus the court refused to the investigation in the petition to elect a preventive measure against Zuev in the form of detention. House arrest for the rector is scheduled for two months – until December 7. As the representative of the Tverskoy District Court added, Zuev is in the status of a suspect in the case of large-scale fraud.
The criminal case itself was initiated on the fact of embezzlement of budgetary funds allocated within the framework of the federal project “Teacher of the Year” and the national project “Education”. At the same time, “Shaninka” itself stated that the university, despite the detention of the rector, is working “in a regular mode”, and the educational process is “in accordance with the schedule and curriculum.”
Sergei Zuev was detained on Tuesday in the framework of the case of embezzlement of more than 21 million rubles from the Fund for New Forms of Education Development (FNFRO), which was headed by ex-Deputy Minister of Education Marina Rakova. According to the investigation, Rakova and other defendants in 2019 stole more than 50 million rubles allocated under two government contracts under the Education state program. The official, according to the investigation, lobbied the transfer of these funds to the FNFRO, and Shaninka was involved as a subcontractor for the execution of government contracts.
