The first matches of the quarterfinals of the country’s Cup among men’s teams, held under the auspices of the Russian Basketball Federation (RBF), took place. The return meetings are scheduled for December 11, in all pairs the intrigue remains, since the advantage of this or that club is still from three to eight points.
Let us recall the main feature of the cup tournament – the participation of foreign legionnaires is prohibited. In the Super League teams that play in the quarterfinals, no more than two Varangians are allowed to participate in the national championship. Many of them make the weather in their teams, but in the Russian Cup they are forced to observe the actions of their partners from the stands.
The current winner of the Temp-SUMZ-UMMC trophy from the city of Revda, Sverdlovsk region, lost on a visit to the Izhevsk team Kupol-Rodniki – 71:74. Let’s pay attention to one more cup rule, which is somewhat contrary to the classical canons of basketball. Draws are allowed in two-legged matches. The referees will appoint extra time only if at the end of the repeated game the total score is equal. And in Izhevsk, a draw could have been recorded if Maxim Kolyushkin from Revdina had got into the ring after a long-range throw in the last seconds. Among the hosts, the most productive with 17 points was the center Evgeny Fidiy, who was once involved in the senior youth team of the country. Dmitry Arteshin (22) scored for Temp.
The champion of the Super League of the last season 2020/21 BC Samara won a victory over Uralmash in Yekaterinburg – 90:82. At the end of the first half of the meeting, the Volzhans were in the lead with a margin of “plus 15”, but in the next two quarters they lost their advantage, although they retained high chances of overall success before the home game. Top scorers: Uralmash – Anton Glazunov (20), Nikita Balashov (19); BC “Samara” – Alexander Varnakov (21), Maxim Barashkov (18), Maxim Dybowski (18).
Capital “Runa”, which is in the group of leaders of the current regular championship of the Super League, upset “Ufimets” on the road – 75:70. And here the guests started dashingly – 24:11 according to the results of the starting quarter. The Bashkortostan team rebuilt in time, won the remaining three ten minutes with a slight advantage, but could not catch up with the rival. The leader in the number of points scored in the match is Muscovite Andrei Sopin (22), who defended the colors of the national team at the 2019 World Cup in China.
And, finally, BC “Novosibirsk” at home turned out to be slightly stronger than the Moscow club MBA – 75:72. The debut of the game foreshadowed the defeat of the guests – 29:12 after 10 minutes of rivalry. However, the capital’s basketball players showed the ability to take a punch, and before the return game on their site, they are the favorites with a minus 3 deficit. We would like to draw your attention to five long-range hits from Novosibirsk Maksim Tkachenko, a graduate of the Lokomotiv-Kuban basketball club (Krasnodar). For the Muscovites, Vladislav Sharapov brought the most points (17), but out of ten attempts, “three-ruble notes” he converted only one shot.
All results of the first matches of the quarterfinals:
Ufimets (Ufa) – Runa (Moscow) – 70:75;
Uralmash (Yekaterinburg) – BC Samara – 82:90;
Kupol-Rodniki (Izhevsk) – Temp-SUMZ-UGMK (Revda) – 74:71;
