In the event of the death of a spouse whose pension was higher, the widow or widower has the right to receive his payments instead of their own. This was recalled in the Pension Fund of Russia (PFR).
The department clarified that a widowed spouse has the right to retire upon the loss of a breadwinner in the event that he has reached retirement age or was recognized as disabled, while, as noted, such a transition is not always beneficial.
“The fixed payment to the survivor’s insurance pension is 50% less than to the old-age pension. Therefore, the widowed spouse will receive a pension not in the amount that his husband (wife) had, ”RIA Novosti quotes the fund’s statement.
Citizens were warned that there are no special additional payments for the spouse’s retirement. We are talking, among other things, about rural or northern experience. “The pension does not increase when you reach the age of 80,” the department added.
However, Russians at any time will be able to return to receive an old-age pension, for which they will need to write an appropriate application.
