A remastered 4K version that took thousands of hours of work.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Francis Ford Coppola’s masterpiece, Paramount has planned a very exciting theatrical release for The Godfather. It will be on February 23, in Dolby Cinema and especially in a remastered 4K version (in VOST only). A trailer was made to celebrate this:
More than 300 elements have been screened in order to restore the best definition for each of the images of the three films. More than 4000 hours of work have repaired stains, tears and other impacts on the negatives. It also took more than 1000 hours of color correction work by dynamic processes in accordance with the original version of the director and his director of photography Gordon Willis.
All of the work was carried out under the supervision of Francis Ford Coppola in person. “I am very proud of the Godfather, who represents the first third of the creations of my life “, comments the filmmaker in the press release. “And I’m glad that Mario Puzo’s Godfather, The Epilogue: The Death of Michael Corleone be part of this tribute for the 50 years of the saga because we thus bring together the author and my original version, for a perfect conclusion of our epic trilogy. It is also a pleasure to share this milestone with Paramount, alongside the early fans as well as the new generation who in turn appreciates the film and even those who will discover it. “
Note that for this anniversary, the historic trilogy will be released on March 23 and for the very first time with HDR-10 in 4K Ultra HD Digital and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray. 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray box includes The Godfather, The Godfather II, and Coppola’s recently re-edited version of the final film in the trilogy, Mario Puzo’s Godfather, epilogue: the death of Michael Corleone.
