The Godfather turns 50 years after its premiere and so will be the celebrations in cinemas

AM.- The masterpiece of Francis Ford Coppola ‘The Godfather’ celebrates 50 years of its projection, and will have special functions at Cinépolis.

The acclaimed film can be seen as of February 24 in selected cinemas and in 4K on March 22.

All three films in the series have been meticulously restored under the direction of Coppola and will be available for the first time in 4K Ultra HD in digital download from March 22, 2022 and lots of bonus material on select platforms.

On the restoration process, the filmmaker proudly commented:

I am very proud to include Mario Puzo’s version of The Godfather: Coda, The Death of Michael Corleone in this fiftieth anniversary celebration, as it captures our own visions of the end of the epic trilogy.

In addition, I am very grateful to celebrate this anniversary together with Paramount, with the wonderful fans of the film who have loved it for decades, with the new generations who still find it relevant and finally with those who are discovering it for the first time. ”

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the theatrical release of the first film on March 24, 1972, Paramount Pictures and American Zoetrope, the production house of Francis Ford Coppola, undertook a painstaking restoration of all three films over the past three years.

All efforts were directed towards creating the best possible presentation for today’s audiences who can view movies using technology that has advanced so far. spectacular since 2007, year of previous restoration of the film by the film historian and conservationist Robert Harris.

Using this work as a model, the team invested thousands of hours to ensure that each frame was evaluated to create the most flawless presentation while remaining true to the original look and feel of the film.

On the restoration of ‘The Godfather’

-Over 300 boxes of film were examined to find the best possible resolution for each frame of the after films.

-More than 4 thousand hours were required to repair the stains, eliminate tears and other anomalies that were found in the original negatives.

-More than a thousand hours were required for color correction to guarantee the high dynamic range of the original vision of director Francis Ford Coppola and photographer Gordon Willis.

-In addition to the 5.1 audio channels approved by Walter Murch in 2007 the original monaural tracks of The Godfather and The Godfather: Part II were restored.

-The whole process was directly supervised by Francis Ford Coppola.
