We are beginning a new stage marked by recovery that has to be transformed and become decent work and wages
“We are beginning a new stage marked by the recovery that has to be transformed and become decent work and wages.”

The Minister of Public Works, Gabriel Katopodis, considered this Saturday that “in 2022, the national government has the opportunity and responsibility to start the economy” and affirmed that in “these 40 days that follow the election they will define the Government we want ”.

“It was an important week for the Government. These 30, 40 days that follow the election will define the government we want, “said Katopodis in statements to radio FM La Patriada.

In this sense, the minister pointed out that “There is a feeling that another time is beginning for the government, that we are more determined and focused on our own agenda.”

“We are beginning a new stage marked by recovery that has to be transformed and become decent work and wages,” he added.

Then, in statements to radio AM 750, Katopodis stated that “in 2022, the national government has the opportunity and responsibility to start the economy.”

Regarding the negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the national official pointed out that “both for the Minister of Economy -Martín Guzmán-, for the President -Alberto Fernández- and for the Vice -Cristina Kirchner- it is clear that the According to the IMF, it should be about growth and not about adjustment ”.

“The agreement with the IMF will happen but without conditioning or putting at risk the recovery process of Argentina”, he stressed.

And he added: “It is clear that it is a growth program, not an adjustment program, but there is no agreement or solution. We are going to arrange with the IMF, but first we are going to guarantee the conditions that the country needs for development ”.

Katopodis also pointed out that “it is a debt that we did not contract and that it is not in bridges, schools or hospitals. But the previous government took it and we have to take charge ”, he clarified.

Regarding public works, the former mayor of San Martín stressed that “In the last year of (Mauricio) Macri, 1.1% of the GDP was for works. In Alberto’s first year it was 2.2% and we want it to be 2.4% next year ”.

“There are no elements that justify the level of increase that construction materials have”

“Alberto Fernández allowed us to reach 2.2 of GDP and we are forecasting budget items to be 2.4 next year,” he said.

Regarding the management of his portfolio, he emphasized that “There are 300 works underway throughout the country. Works that indicate what growth the country needs ”, since“ Peronism is recognized in great public works, in those that change the matrix of development ”.

For this reason, “we are going to put all the energy in the works that are going to generate jobs and exports. This stage allows us to have a plan and project ”, he pointed out.

“The construction sector has not stopped growing in 15 months”, stressed the minister.

On the other hand, he criticized the increases in the prices of construction materials: “There are no elements that justify the level of increase that construction materials have.”

Katopodis concluded: “The growth of the construction sector cannot be put at risk by the pettiness of any businessman.”
