The Government is bad, long live the Government… | Editorial

It can be a symptom of fear, hopelessness or disbelief, or it can be a sign of prudence or wisdom: a significant majority of the Portuguese (53%) think that the Government is “bad” or “very bad”, but, despite this negative assessment, an even more expressive majority (70%) believes that he should govern until the end of the legislature. How to explain this apparent contradiction, shown in Cesop’s study for PÚBLICO-RTP-Antena 1? The existence of an electorate that feels it is living worse, that disbelieves in the Government, but that, even so, wants to keep it in power, is an important witness for reading current political events.
