The head of Naftogaz announced Ukraine’s readiness to extend the contract for the transit of Russian gas
Kiev is ready to extend the gas transit contract with Gazprom. This statement was made by the head of Naftogaz Yuriy Vitrenko following negotiations with the German side.
“The volumes that now go through Ukraine should be transferred to contracts with European companies for the long term. Thus, we must get guarantees that transit … will be preserved, “said the head of Naftogaz.
Vitrenko also announced Ukraine’s readiness to negotiate with Gazprom, noting that this is known to the German partners. Nevertheless, as the head of Naftogaz said, the extension of the contract does not in itself provide sufficient guarantees to maintain the flow through the Ukrainian territory.
“This requires, first of all, contracts with European companies,” he said.
Let us remind you that Vitrenko accused Gazprom of creating an artificial gas shortage so that Europe would agree to the launch of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. According to the head of Naftogaz, Russia uses gas as a geopolitical weapon, and “sanctions should be the consequence.”
