The Last Duel: a kiss scene between Matt Damon and Ben Affleck cut in the edit

“It would have been our first kiss on screen!”

Ridley Scott’s new film, The Last Duel, marks the return of the duo Ben Affleck – Matt Damon to writing, accompanied by Nicole Holofcener. The two actors and writers thus recount that a kiss scene was cut during the editing by Ridley Scott: the first kiss in front of the camera of Mattfleck (via Entertainment Tonight). It was during a ceremonial scene bringing together Count Pierre d’Alençon (Ben Affleck) and Jean de Carrouges (MattDamon) that this kiss was to occur. “In the actual original version of this scene, the way the ceremony went was for you to kiss everyone on the mouth., Affleck explained. And we had it in the script. “ Still, this scene did not survive editing, Ridley Scott thought it might distract viewers. “And his instinct is pretty good”, Affleck adds.

The Last Duel: the true story that gave birth to Ridley Scott’s event movie

This anecdote is completed by Matt Damon, who adds that this scene, if it has been modified, has still allowed the actors to improvise to account for the animosity that animates their characters. “Yes, the two characters really hate each other and it was a lot of fun, Damon said. In fact, the scene where I kneel in front of him, Ben improvised this thing where I started to say my line and he just interrupted me and did ‘Closer’. And I kind of have to get up and kneel down in front of him again (…) he just did that and let it slip out, it wasn’t in the script. “

The Last Duel is actually based on actual events. The film reveals old hypotheses about the last known judicial duel in France – also named “Judgment of God” – between Jean de Carrouges and Jacques Le Gris, two friends who have become fierce rivals over time. Starring Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Adam Driver and Jodie Comer in the lead roles, The Last Duel is a new high for Ridley Scott. In theaters October 13. The teaser :
