Improving the safety level on highways is one of the key tasks of the President’s Safe High-Quality Roads project. Over the past 5 years, the number of road accidents has been reduced by 40% on the 10 most damaged regional highways in the Moscow Region, and the number of fatalities by 57%. About this the chief of police – head of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Moscow Region Victor Kuznetsov reported at a videoconferencing meeting hosted by the governor Andrey Vorobyov with the leadership of the government of the Moscow region and the heads of the territories.
“Today, together with the head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Moscow Region, Viktor Kuzmich Paukov, and General Viktor Vladimirovich Kuznetsov, we presented new equipment to the traffic police. This is one of the terms that allows us to reduce deaths and injuries on the roads every year. We are doing this great work together, and it is yielding results. Of course, doctors help us, we actively use aviation in order to provide assistance in especially difficult cases, – said the governor at the meeting. – Last week, our president paid attention to the topic of road safety, and in the Moscow region there are more of them and the intensity is higher than in other regions. Therefore, there is a lot of work here, and success can be achieved if we act in a team and together. When there is the involvement of industry officials, heads of municipalities, and our respected residents. ”
Andrey Vorobyov handed over 19 patrol motorcycles to the special traffic police battalion, which is based in Vidnoye. The new technology will help not only monitor motor offenders, which are often difficult to catch up by car, but also, bypassing traffic jams, quickly arrive at the scene of an accident. These are new BMW 2-cylinder motorcycles with special equipment for operational services.
“They have a capacity of 136 horsepower and a speed of over 200 km / h,” said Viktor Kuznetsov. – Next year, more than 150 motorcycles will come out to monitor the traffic situation on the territory of the Moscow region. I am confident that this will help reduce road traffic accidents. ”
In the Moscow region, the motor vehicle fleet of the traffic police is regularly replenished – since 2017, almost 60 motorcycles have been purchased. More than 100 employees serve on “iron horses”. Thanks to preventive measures, the number of accidents involving motor vehicles has decreased by almost a third.
