The number of consumer loans issued to Russians under 25 increased by 14.1%

Borrowers got younger: over the year, the number of consumer loans issued to Russians under 25 increased by 14.1%, while the number of loans to older clients decreased by 10.6-22.9%. Such calculations “RG” were provided by the National Bureau of Credit Histories (NBCH).

The number of loans to citizens under 25 is the only category that has shown an increase. They accounted for 11.1% of all consumer loans. The number of consumer loans issued to citizens of 25-29 years old decreased by 12.2%, 30-39 years old – by 10.6%, 40-49 years old – by 11.2%, 50-59 years old – by 16.4%, 60-65 years old – by 17%, over 65 years old – by 22.9%.

Despite the growth in the number of loans issued to young people, their share among the borrowers of banks in other age categories is still very small. A third of loans are taken by people aged 30-39, every fifth loan is taken by citizens aged 40-49. The share of young people (2.4%) exceeded the indicators for the categories 60-65 years old and over 65 years old (4.6% and 3.8%, respectively).

According to IDF Eurasia, Russians most often take their first loan between the ages of 23 and 42. The share of such borrowers is 66%. Basically, the funds are spent on large-scale purposes: repairs, a car, a wedding, education, and occasionally for the purchase of household appliances.

“The consumer lending market is characterized by high competition for borrowers from banks,” noted Mikhail Polukhin, director of the ACRA financial institutions ratings group. for young consumers of credit products, this shift in customer focus is expected to resonate. “

Another trend is the digitalization of the banking sector. Young people are more attracted to loans issued online. Banks actively developed this area during the pandemic in order to reduce the number of contacts and protect employees and customers.

“In this channel, young people traditionally predominate among the active audience,” the Moscow Credit Bank said. At the same time, the younger audience has a poorer credit history or none at all, which translates into lower loan limits.
