The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus infection in the world has exceeded 315 million, and the number of deaths has reached 5.51 million. Such data were disseminated by the World Health Organization (WHO).
It is specified that as of 18:19 Moscow time on Thursday, WHO received information about 315 345 967 infected and 5 510 174 dead, reports TASS… WHO statistics take into account only officially confirmed information on the infected and the deaths provided by states.
Most of the confirmed cases of infection were registered in the United States – over 62.1 million. This is followed by India with 36.3 million and Brazil with 22.6 million. In terms of the number of deaths, the USA is also in the lead – 836 482, Brazil is on the second line – 620 238, on the third – India – 485 035.
As explained by WHO Director General Tedros Adan Ghebreyesus, the current growth in the number of cases is stimulated by the “omicron” variant of the coronavirus, which is rapidly replacing the “delta” strain in almost all countries. More than 9.4 billion coronavirus vaccinations have been made worldwide, he said. At the same time, 90 countries have not yet reached 40 percent vaccination coverage, and 36 countries – even 10 percent.
Earlier, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported that a new incidence record was recorded in the world. The daily level of only registered cases rose to 3.4 million – the majority in the US, UK, France. The organization believes that the majority of the world’s population will be ill in the near future with the omicron.
