The PS wants a flat-rate rebate on energy bills

The energy regulator (Creg) has calculated that an average household will spend 1,000 euros per year on electricity and 1,600 euros per year on gas, and these prices are expected to rise further.

LThe PS, party of the Vivaldi coalition, offers a flat-rate rebate on the energy bill in response to soaring gas and electricity prices. The price freeze is not taboo for the party either, Knack reported on its website Wednesday.

The energy regulator (Creg) has calculated that an average household will spend 1,000 euros per year on electricity and 1,600 euros per year on gas, and these prices are expected to rise further.

On Monday evening, Energy Minister Tinne Van der Straeten (Groen) suggested extending the social tariff for one million households. Vooruit and the PS buy into the concept, but believe more is needed. The French-speaking socialists therefore offer a flat-rate discount. “In this way, the government could help families with a fixed sum. For many low-income people, this can make a big difference, ”says the training.

It is no coincidence that the PS advances the lump sum reimbursement. When he was Minister of Energy, in 2009 had introduced a reduction of 30 euros for individuals. This measure took place in the context of the recovery following the financial crisis at that time. Suppliers had to take this into account in the advance invoice, account statement or credit note.

Freezing energy prices does not seem to be a taboo for PS either. The path to lowering the VAT from 21 to 6%, a hobbyhorse of the Socialists, is however abandoned by virtue of the government agreement which did not devote any space to it.
