On Thursday night (25), the Santos won the strength 2-0 in Vila Belmiro, for the 35th round of the Brazilian championship. Marcos Leonardo scored both goals, one with a penalty, and the other taking advantage of a good table with Gabriel Pirani. Now, they are eight points away from Bahia, the first team in the relegation zone, with three rounds to go.

At the post-game press conference, the coach Fabio Carille praised the team’s posture, remembering the difficulties: “The way we arrived and took over the group, I have nothing to complain about. Just praise the posture of these guys on a daily basis. Another overcoming game, we need to understand limitations and work on them. Make the group understand the difficulties and play on them”.

The coach starts to project other goals in the Brasileirão, after practically getting rid of the relegation to Serie B: “Satisfied with what’s happening. There is very little to reach our goal. Let’s look for more points and now I’m starting to dream of a South American. At 45, mathematically we are still not free”.

Putting Marcos Leonardo on the field, for the coach, was a natural situation: “I know about the talent and potential, the business is heavy. It is unknown to what extent we have their return, fear of burning. All of them have been training well, I felt comfortable and relaxed about putting him on the field today”.

Carille still projects a spot in the 2022 Copa Sudamericana, with the situation regarding relegation practically defined: “If we reach the points of the Sudamericana as soon as possible, nine points to dispute, then we start to dream. Just the relief of having reached 45 points… I’m sure 46 doesn’t fall”.
