Paris, Nov 23 (EFE) .- A draft of the handwritten work on the Theory of General Relativity by German scientist Albert Einstein was awarded this Wednesday in Paris for a record 11.6 million euros (about 13.1 million dollars).

This 54-page manuscript belonging to the German physicist and his friend and Swiss engineer Michele Besso is “exceptional”, since Einstein normally destroyed the working documents of his theories, according to the specialist of the Christie’s auction house in books and books. manuscripts, Adrien Legendre.

The document, initially valued at between 2 and 3 million euros, shows “a crucial phase in the development of the Theory of General Relativity” and is “the most valuable Einstein manuscript ever offered at auction,” they say in a statement. Christie’s and Aguttes houses, which made the sale.

Einstein and Besso worked on this theory to try to explain an anomaly in the orbit of the planet Mercury for which scientists could not find an explanation.

“It is one of the few testimonies that we have of this scientific process on the Theory of General Relativity”, Legendre clarified.

After several failed tests, in 1913 Einstein left the studio and Besso took these documents with him.

“Einstein probably wouldn’t have bothered to keep what he saw as a working document,” the note adds.

In September 1915, the German scientist returned to the approach and refined his calculations, and at the end of that year he published a series of articles in which he demonstrated that his Theory of General Relativity could clarify the anomaly of the orbit of Mercury.

His theory was developed to explain the gravitational effect of large objects in space and today it is the basis of modern cosmology.

Christie’s already auctioned the manuscript this Tuesday 20 years ago at its headquarters in New York and the person who acquired it decided to put it up for sale again, said Legendre, who believes it was “a good time” to sell it, since the market of these works has increased in recent decades.
