The British cyclist Thomas Pidcock (INEOS) prevailed this Saturday over the Portuguese João Almeida (UAE Emirates) on arrival at the finish line of the fourth stage of the Volta ao Algarve, taking the lead in the overall individual standings.
Pidcock, Olympic cross country champion, beat the Portuguese by a second by completing the 177.9 kilometers between Albufeira and Alto do Malhão in 4h28m39s, leaving him in second place, with the Belgian Ilan Van Wilder (Soudal-QuickStep ) in third, five seconds.
Overall, the 23-year-old Briton leads with a five-second advantage over Van Wilder, second, and seven seconds ahead of João Almeida.
The 49th edition of the Volta ao Algarve ends on Sunday, with the decisive individual time trial in Lagoa, with 24.4 kilometers timed to close the race.
