The opposition party “United National Movement” in Tbilisi on Freedom Square is holding a rally of many thousands demanding the release of ex-President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili. This was reported on Thursday by the correspondent. TASS from the venue.

The rally began with a minute of silence in memory of the nine victims of the partial collapse of a residential building in the city of Batumi on October 8. There are no political speeches yet. Famous Georgian singers are singing on the stage. Freedom Square is completely filled with people, some of whom have gone beyond and are located on Rustaveli Avenue. From early in the morning, convoys of cars from different regions of the country set off for the Georgian capital. On their way, supporters of the ruling party “Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia” arranged “corridors of shame” and greeted the protesters with brooms.

The stage for politicians’ speeches is located in front of the Tbilisi City Council building. Traffic on Svoboda Square and adjacent avenues, as well as streets, has been closed since the first half of the day. There are reports that special forces have been drawn to the parliament building and the Government House, located not far from the place of the rally.

The organizers of the rally promise to read Saakashvili’s appeal to the people, as well as urge residents to come to the polls and vote for the opposition.
