Joe Exotic is no longer in prison in Texas. He was unexpectedly transferred to a medical facility last week. That would be because of a cancer diagnosis, but Exotic would also be treated for some other problems.
Joe Exotic (58), the former zoo owner who was best known for the Netflix documentary Tiger kingwas unexpectedly taken to hospital. He has so far been held in a prison in Fort Worth, Texas. He was said to have been transferred by plane to a medical facility in the state of North Carolina on Tuesday evening. That reports his lawyer John Phillips. Exotic, whose real name is Joseph Allen Maldonado-Passage, would normally not be transferred until later this month. The man had been diagnosed with prostate cancer earlier this month, but would also be treated for “numerous other problems”.
He was convicted in 2019 of seventeen different cases of animal cruelty, the killing or having killed five tigers and plotting a contract murder for his great rival Carole Baskin. For a moment he had hopes of being able to leave his cell early when former US President Donald Trump would pardon several inmates at the end of his term in office. Unfortunately for Joe, the choice ultimately fell on him.
