Tom Whitlock, Oscar-winning composer who helped Top Gun and its soundtrack rising to the heights of 1980s culture writing the lyrics to the romantic song Take My Breath Awayas well as the hard rock anthem danger zone — a song that conjures up images of motorcycles, fighter jets and airplane pilots for a generation of moviegoers — died Feb. 18 in Nashville. She was 68 years old.
