A fire in a house, in Bragança, this Tuesday caused the death of two people, an 83-year-old man and an 89-year-old woman, a source from the Bragança Volunteer Firefighters told Lusa.
The alert for the fire was given at 9:07 am, in a house in the União das Freguesias de Sé, Santa Maria e Meixedo, municipality of Bragança, said the source, adding that when firefighters arrived at the scene “there was little or nothing to do because the house is engulfed in fire.”
The same source said that “the first person located was the woman, while the man was only found in a second visit to the house”. The elderly man even received resuscitation maneuvers on the spot, “but without result”.
“None of the victims had burns, the cause of death could have been asphyxiation, but only the autopsy can say that”, said the source, adding that the causes of the fire are not yet known.
There were 15 operators and six vehicles on site, including an INEM Medical Emergency Vehicle.
