Grooming or child harassment through the Internet is one of the crimes that has grown the most in recent years. In Argentina, last year there was an increase that worries parents and authorities equally. To prevent this situation, many organizations carry out communication campaigns and, one in particular, used a genre that young people hear every day: trap.
The contest Rap Digital It is organized by UNICEF, the National Secretariat for Children, Adolescents and the Family (SENAF), the Ministry of Social Development and the Faro Digital Civil Association. This year it took place the third edition which aimed to raise awareness about el grooming but also on other digital crimes such as cyberbullying and the dissemination of private images.
More than 400 young people from all over the country sent videos with songs framed within the urban genre and in which they reflected on the attacks and harassment on the networks and virtual platforms. They had to last up to 60 seconds and the participants had to be between 12 and 21 years old.
The winners of the rap contest
After a selection process, UNICEF announced the winners. In the general category, who obtained the first place was Nahiara Muchico, a 20-year-old girl who lives in Villa Soldati and that he rapped about insults and lack of empathy on social media.
“I decided to participate because it seems very good to convey the themes proposed by the contest through art and because I was interested in being able to challenge myself,” said Muchico. And he added in this regard: “I consider that it is important that the problems that occur in social networks are made visible and to be able to transmit a message to the people who suffer them that they are not alone in this and can ask for a hand ”.
Meanwhile, in the SENAF category, created to especially promote the inclusion of adolescents who participate in the various programs and projects of the agency throughout the country, the award went to Roxy VR, a 15-year-old teenager who lives in Paraná, Entre Ríos. In his rap, he reflects on the effects of violence on social networks and invites us to continue making these problems visible.
UNICEF calls on trap leaders to raise awareness about grooming
“The contest caught my attention because it was about a topic that I think is very important to talk about, such as cyberbullying. I’ve been rapping since I was 9 and I think it is a great tool to express what you feel and what you think ”, assured the young woman from Entre Ríos.
This edition had the support of several Argentine trap and freestyle references such as Tiago PZK, Bhavi, Dozer, Tink, NTC, Under MC and Tatu Franchi, from Las Chicas del Free. In addition, the winners will record their rap and produce a video in a professional way with the UNICEF team.
Grooming and Argentina
All organizations and companies dedicated to cybersecurity and crime prevention such as grooming agree that this type of crime increased during the pandemic. “97% of adolescents use social networks. Today the most popular applications among young people can also be the most dangerous for children ”, warns Gabriel Zurdo, CEO of the company and specialist in cybersecurity, technological risk and business.
According to a report the company made on this issue, 40% of young people between 12 and 17 years old have suffered online bullying. “The full scale of the commercial exploitation of inappropriate domestic content and images with the participation of minors is difficult to know,” they comment from BTR. And they add: “Only 1 in 10 adolescent victims inform their parents or an adult on the abuses, being the social network Instagram, as the place where most of the young people admit to having received cyber bullying ”.
Finally, Zurdo remarks that it is extremely important that parents talk with their children about these issues. “The key in cybersecurity issues has to do with the need to educate and raise awareness to people and, in this case, to prepare children and adolescents, not only to avoid risks in the present but in the future ”, concludes the expert.
