The 27-year-old Kipyogei finished in 2:24:45 in her third race at this distance. Her compatriots Edna Kiplagat (2h25:09) and Mary Ngugi (2h25:20) completed the podium.

It was the first Boston Marathon since April 2019. The event was canceled in 2020, and this year the marathon moved from spring to fall due to the corona pandemic.
