The border between Mexico and the United States will reopen normally as of November, according to an announcement made this Wednesday by the Mexican Government, but only to people who are vaccinated against Covid-19 with immunizers approved by the World Organization. of Health (WHO).

“Inform the people of Mexico about good news: the opening of the northern border was achieved. We will now have normality on our northern border as of November 1,” said the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, during his morning lecture.

In this regard, the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Marcelo Ebrard, assured that with the reopening of the border with the United States (USA), only land and air travel will be allowed for people who are vaccinated against Covid-19.



From the National Palace, the official stressed that thanks to the dialogues held, as well as the advances in vaccination against SARS-CoV-2 in the border area and throughout Mexico, this is how this reopening was achieved.

The Mexican government’s announcement comes a day after the US administration announced the reopening of its land borders to non-essential travel next month, ending a 19-month shutdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The US had closed the borders for certain types of travel between Mexico and Canada due to the risk of spreading the coronavirus.

López Obrador expressed his approval for the regularization of traffic on the border with the United States and said that it was possible due to the percentage of anticovid vaccination achieved in Mexico.

This Tuesday, he stressed, 1,025,505 people were vaccinated in our country. For this reason, the Chief Executive mentioned all the participants in the national vaccination strategy. “We are moving forward, we are doing well.”

“The opening of the northern border was achieved. We will have normality on our northern border as of November 1, ”said López Obrador.
