Vienna Philharmonic on new, not entirely easy paths

One thing is certain: Bruckner’s Fourth and a world premiere by Samy Moussa under Christian Thielemann will be played in Barcelona this week. Gaudi, the architect of the still unfinished church, and Bruckner both would have worshiped God through their art in their own way. The concert will be broadcast in more than 50 countries, in Austria it can be heard and seen on ORF 2 on Sunday at 9:05 a.m.

And then the subscription concerts follow. There is another debut – Thomas Adès conducts on 26./27. March own, Berg and Janacek. Also on the desk: Alain Altinoglu, Franz Welser-Möst, Kirill Petrenko, Valery Gergiev, Daniel Barenboim, Tugan Sokhiev, Thielemann, Herbert Blomstedt, Riccardo Muti and Andris Nelsons. There will be many premieres of the Philharmonic Orchestra – “With a subscription, it’s time for it,” says Froschauer.

Will the subscribers come despite the ongoing pandemic? “We are already expecting some of them not to come,” says Bladerer. The two do not believe that the concert business will come to a standstill again. And at the New Year’s Concert? “We want to play in front of people,” says Froschauer. Without an audience, like this year, “that was very difficult”. G. leyrer
