Domestic violence is a priority for the police and the judiciary and is included in the new National Security Plan (PNS).

Lhe Minister of Justice Vincent Van Quickenborne (Open Vld) wants to include in the penal code a new aggravating circumstance: domestic homicide. Other measures are also taken to fight against this violence, adds the minister. “We are investing even more in the training of magistrates and police services in the field of sexual and domestic violence,” he said in a statement.

“These mandatory training courses have already started in the spring for justice. 1,772 magistrates have already taken part in this training. We are also placing more emphasis on specialized moral inspectors. And this in order to remove obstacles for the victim. In addition, 15 additional criminologists are deployed in the prosecution services to deal with cases of sexual violence and domestic violence. They must better protect victims by identifying dangerous domestic situations more quickly, allow a multidisciplinary approach and better support the perpetrators to prevent recidivism. “

Intra-family violence is a priority for the police and the judiciary and is included in the new National Security Plan (PNS), recalls the Minister. Awareness, training, prevention, protection of victims, reception of victims and perpetrators, and the implementation of an effective penal policy are still the main objectives of the PNS, he adds.
