It was around 8:30 in the morning on Thursday when the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, arrived in the 43rd district, of the popular Playa council, in the city ​​of Matanzas, where about 2,078 inhabitants reside.

An unusual fervor was noted in the neighborhood for the visit, and also because this day, November 25, commemorated the fifth anniversary of the physical disappearance of the historic leader of the Revolution.

Today is a very significant day, and I think the most important thing is that we are doing things like renovating the neighborhood and helping to solve social problems, regardless of the complex situation aggravated by the harassment of US imperialism; that is the best way to honor and remember Fidel, said Díaz-Canel.

Odalys López Aquerrebere, president of the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power, gave a brief account of the actions of the territory to gradually transform the situation of the less favored neighborhoods, a program that to date includes a total of 16 settlements, with benefits of various kinds.

A key component, he said, is to achieve the direct link of the main authorities of the Party and the Government with the people.

In the company of Edelys Romero Rodríguez, delegate of the 43rd district, Díaz-Canel toured various places in the town where they work to improve the quality of life of the people, actions that include the resuscitation of the Cándido González basic secondary school, the clinics of the doctor and the sick of the family, the agricultural square, the road network, as well as the solution to a common grave in a citadel and the issue of water supply, among others.

In his characteristic manner, always cordial, the Cuban leader exchanged with people from the neighborhood and stressed that said transformation demands, above all, the participation of the neighbors; it is something fundamental to get out of the condition of vulnerability, he commented.

When meditating on the subject, he attributed importance to the fact that this process of dignifying life in the neighborhoods is not interrupted, that it is a constant and collective work, and that each person finds their space to participate in solving problems. , evaluate and control.

During the tour of the community, several people came to greet him and offer some impression. He asked them if they were aware of the changes in the neighborhood and why, in his opinion, it was essential that everyone give their contribution.

“Yes, of course, they have taken us into account and we have done our bit, although we can do more,” said a woman.

Then the First Secretary of the Party leaned a little towards her, and in a convincing tone, said to her: «Well, we must continue doing, with the participation of all, and control so that things look good for us, that they do not accumulate. problems, improve and continue advancing ».

Upon his arrival in what is also known as the City of Bridges, and in the company of the member of the Political Bureau and Secretary for Organization and Politics of Cadres of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Roberto Morales Ojeda, and the vice prime minister and head of Economy and Planning, Alejandro Gil Fernández, Díaz-Canel visited the monument Tribute to my flag, the work of the plastic artist Jesús Alberto Mederos.

Like large murals, over a height of just over 40 meters, two symbols of the Homeland shine in two buildings in the city of Matanzas and become a gift from art to the Cuban people.

It is the flag of the July 26 Movement, which recreates the degrees of Commander in Chief and the landscape of the Sierra Maestra, as well as the national ensign, with the landscape of Dos Ríos at the base of the painting, as distinctive elements.

It was a day in which it was difficult to get away from a thought, a date warned by all Cubans. Díaz-Canel was motivated and motivating, listening to the people and their proposals on how to continue perfecting our socialism without changing course or principles.

Roxana María Romero, one of the vulnerable mothers in the neighborhood and who has been protected by social assistance, was grateful. “I have reasons to be happy, thanks to the Revolution,” she expressed emotionally.


The Cuban President also visited the basic unit of cooperative production (ubpc) Ceiba Mocha, an entity that due to its proximity to the provincial capital of Matanzas is in charge of providing agricultural products to the population residing in the small city.

Accompanied by Liván Izquierdo Alonso, first secretary of the Party in the province, and Governor Mario Sabines Lorenzo, as well as the head of Agriculture, Idael Pérez Brito, he spoke with producers and directors of that entity about the agricultural strategy and how they take advantage of the land and resources available to the ubpc today.

With productive takeoff in recent times, Ceiba Mocha shows special progress in the intercropping of crops, and due to the experience undertaken, already with the first fruits, in the coffee plantation in the plain.

During the exchange with authorities of Agriculture in the province, the call to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the 63 measures approved to boost the sector, listen to producers, as well as stimulate livestock in the territory and achieve a more efficient use. of the areas destined to that line of work.

The President learned that the Ceiba Mocha ubpc, subordinate to the Matanzas Agroforestry Company, has an area of ​​207 hectares based on the promotion of various crops.

At the end of the visit, the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba recalled that Matanzas is a province to which the Commander-in-Chief devoted a lot of time to promoting programs, productive centers, and educational strategies. We are in a reunion with his thought and his legacy, he meant.

What we have seen is very interesting, and I think that we are consolidating ourselves in a way of how to do politics in the construction of socialism in Cuba, of how to defend that concept of popular power that Fidel developed, the President declared to the press.

Regardless of the blockade and the complex moments, due to the very talent of the Cuban people, the scientists and the efforts of the Health system, we advanced in the control of the pandemic and this is an example province of that, where there was a very complex situation and they wanted to make a discredit campaign with the famous SOS Matanzas, he stressed.

I think that with effort, talent and broader possibilities of participation, the country changes, is transformed and the Revolution is strengthened, he concluded.


As part of his work activities, the First Secretary toured the Río Seco-Amistad community, belonging to the municipality of Güines, in the province of Mayabeque.

During the exchange, Díaz-Canel learned about the chronological implementation of 97 actions for the development of the demarcation, in which 8,200 residents live.

These activities had the support of city residents and AzCuba Group workers and were mainly aimed at increasing the low agricultural performance of the town, improving the quality of the services offered, the incorporation of 45 young people disconnected from the work and study, as well as to remodel and maintain the schools on the site and the rescue of the old Alexandria sugar mill.

He also witnessed the restoration process of the sculpture El Coleo, by the Valencian artist Mariano Bengiure, which was acquired in colonial times by the wealthy Gómez Mena family, owner of the old Amistad power station, whose restoration process will take the entire month of December.

As part of the visit, the President toured different areas of the popular council, where he exchanged with the locals.

He insisted on working lucidly to solve problems whenever possible. He was interested in popular criteria on the management of the revival of the place and spoke with families who live in the old barracks of the sugar mill, whose roof was renovated and covered.

Likewise, the President appeared at the Caraballo farm, in the community of Bizarrón, which belongs to the productive pole of the municipality of Güines, specifically the Restituto Alonso ubpc.

There he exchanged with producers and inquired about the characteristics of the crops, which at this time are mainly garlic, taro and potatoes.

The Cuban president also recommended increasing production yields, in order to achieve food sovereignty and fulfill the commitment to feeding the Cuban capital, without neglecting the delivery of products to the territory.

The President was accompanied by the Hero of the Republic of Cuba and national coordinator of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution, Gerardo Hernández Nordelo, and the main authorities of the Party and the Government in Mayabeque.
