The Imitation Game

Until the Oscars, TVCine Edition runs a marathon with Oscar-winning films at the weekend, from morning to night. This first one starts with The Imitation Game, biopic by the British mathematician and cryptanalyst Alan Turing signed by the Norwegian Morten Tyldum in 2014. The film with Benedict Cumberbatch was nominated for eight Oscars at the 2015 ceremony, having won only one, for Best Adapted Screenplay. Throughout the rest of the day, the channel passes Memoirs of a Geishaby Rob Marshall (2005), Blade Runner 2046by Denis Villeneuve (2017), Surroundedby Ridley Scott (2001), Apollo 13by Ron Howard (1995), pulp Fictionby Quentin Tarantino (1994) and Bram Stoker’s Draculaby Francis Ford Coppola (1992).

Mothers and daughters

Three women in their relationship with motherhood. 35 years ago, Karen (Annette Bening) became pregnant at just 14 and, with no choice, was forced to give her daughter up for adoption. She was never able to deal with this loss and today she is a bitter person. Her daughter, Elizabeth (Naomi Watts), is a successful lawyer focused only on winning. Meanwhile, Lucy (Kerry Washington) dreams of becoming a mother and, unable to get pregnant, finally decides to go for adoption. Simultaneously faced with decisive choices, these women will see their destinies intertwined in an unexpected way. Written and directed by Rodrigo García, it also features Samuel L. Jackson.

Operation Autumn

“Operation Autumn” was the code name given to the operation carried out by the PIDE (International and State Defense Police) with the clear objective of assassinating General Humberto Delgado. The action of Bruno de Almeida’s film takes place between Portugal, Spain, Algeria, Morocco, France and Italy between the years 1964 and 1981, from the preparation of the operation to the court case, already after the April revolution. With the use of some archival footage, a thriller political leader headed by John Ventimiglia based on the book Humberto Delgado, Biografia do General Sem Medo, by Frederico Delgado Rosa, grandson of Salazar’s opponent.

Based on the book by Roberto Saviano and directed by Matteo Garrone, Gomorra was one of the highlights of the 2008 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Special Jury Prize. It’s a brutal and violent dive into the infernal circles of the Neapolitan Camorra, with raw and incredible precision. Power, money and blood are the “values” that the inhabitants of Naples are confronted with on a daily basis. The only language is that of weapons and blood is the greatest vice. Living a normal life is not possible for these inhabitants. In this scenario of clan wars and trafficking of all kinds, five stories intertwine around the lives of Toto, Pasquale, Don Ciro and Maria, Franco and Roberto, Marco and Ciro. A fictional Camorra deeply rooted in Italian reality.

It was on November 4, 1979 that the American hostage crisis in Iran began, in which 52 Americans, including diplomats and citizens, were arrested and taken hostage by Iranian university students who had taken over the American Embassy in Tehran. They were detained for 444 days, until January 20, 1981. This documentary tells that story.

The Price of Glee

Debut. There will be a curse surrounding the cast of gleethe musical series co-created by Ryan Murphy about singing a cappella in high school that lasted between 2009 and 2015? The 57th edition of the Festival da Canção reaches its second semifinal, in a broadcast conducted by Sónia Araújo and Jorge Gabriel, with Inês Lopes Gonçalves on the green room, in which six of the ten songs will qualify for next week’s final. Edmundo Inácio, The Happy Mess, Teresinha Landeiro, Bandua, Bárbara Tinoco, Inês Só, Ivandro, Dapunksportif, Lara Li and Voodoo Marmalade are the voices that will be in the contest. There will also be performances by Nicolas Alves and Filipe Sambado. On the jury, Maro, Neev, Alex D’Alva Teixeira, Márcia, Carlos Mendes, Sara Correia and Pedro Ribeiro.

Sarah McCoy – Live at Teatro da Vista Alegre
