what changes from this Saturday, January 15

Be careful if you have to go to France and you plan to take the opportunity to go to a restaurant for example, the rules change with our neighbors from this Saturday. As we can read on the Foreign Affairs website, “from January 15, 2022, all people aged 18 and over must have received their booster dose a maximum of 7 months after their last injection or infection with COVID-19 to benefit from a valid health pass“.

The “booster” QR code, valid seven days after the injection, will therefore be the one to present in places and events where it is required (the complete list is available by clicking here). On February 15, the deadline for taking your booster dose will increase to four months after the previous injection.

For people who do not recall within the required time, the QR code of their previous vaccination certificate will be deactivated, their previous vaccination certificate equivalent to a health pass will no longer be valid.“, further specify Foreign Affairs.

From health pass to vaccination pass

But all this is only temporary since new rules are under discussion at the political level. French deputies adopted on Saturday evening at second reading the controversial bill transforming the health pass into a vaccination pass. The debates must now continue in the Senate.

Started on December 29 in committee, the marathon of this twelfth health emergency text since March 2020 will end on Sunday afternoon, with a final vote by the National Assembly, at the end of a chaotic course marked by hiccups, controversies and twists.

The main change concerns the type of proof to be presented in order to have a valid pass. Until now, in the health pass, a negative test was accepted. The vaccination pass will only take into account the following proofs:

  • Complete vaccination schedule, with mandatory booster dose;
  • A certificate of recovery after being affected by Covid-19. “This result must be more than 11 days old and less than 6 months old“, specifies the government.fr website.

And for those under 18? “Since September 30, 2021, adolescents aged 12 and 2 months to 17 years old must present a health pass to access places and events where it is required (cinemas, sports halls, swimming pools, restaurants, cafes, etc.), can we read on the official site service-public.fr. Young minors must therefore have the QR code attesting to full vaccination, a negative test less than 24 hours old or a Covid-19 recovery certificate dating back at least 11 days and less than 6 months. .
