Jérémie Makiese, the twenty-year-old young man who won ‘The Voice Belgique’ at the beginning of this year, may represent our country at the Eurovision Song Contest in Italy in 2022. This was announced on Wednesday morning on the French-language radio station Vivacité.
Flanders and Wallonia alternately designate the Belgian candidate for the Eurovision Song Contest. Last edition, Flanders went for Hooverphonic, now the French-speaking public broadcaster opted for Jérémie Makiese. It is not yet known with which number he will perform in Italy.
The young man, who is also a goalkeeper at Excelsior Virton (1B), won the final of the French-language talent show ‘The Voice Belgique’ in April. “Jérémie won, among other things, thanks to his angelic rendition of the song Jealous van Labyrinth – a performance that left a lasting impression,” the press release reads. “There is also a Flemish edge to this RTBF entry: Jérémie was born in Antwerp and is bilingual.”
Makiese was accompanied during his participation in ‘The Voice Belgique’ by BJ Scott, an artist who also coached Loïc Nottet and co-wrote his song ‘Rhythm Inside’, which brought Nottet to fourth place in the Eurovision Song Contest of 2015.
