In the second quarter of 2021, the volume of global debt renewed its all-time high and reached a record $ 296 trillion, which is 36 trillion more than before the coronavirus pandemic. It is reported by the Institute of International Finance (IIF).
If borrowing by governments, banks and corporations continues at the same pace, the global debt will soon exceed $ 300 trillion, said Emre Tiftik, director of IIF’s sustainability research department.
Recall, as the website kp.ru wrote, the amount of Russia’s public debt in the first six months of 2021 increased by 1.483 trillion rubles, reaching 20.4 trillion rubles, or 17.7% of the gross domestic product (GDP). The leader in this indicator today is Japan, whose national debt exceeds 200% of GDP.
By the way, “KP” said that the US national debt is twice the GDP. Moreover, the richer a country is, the more it borrows from others, and sometimes the poorest states or countries that are commonly referred to as developing countries are among the creditors.
