Zulte Waregem did not just ask to postpone the match: eight players positive, including three goalkeepers

After Zulte Waregem announced on Thursday that it had to postpone its match against KV Oostende next weekend due to additional corona cases in the player group, Essevee also communicated on Friday how hard the core has been hit by the virus. It turned out that no fewer than eight players have tested positive.

There are also three goalkeepers. Due to the infections among the goalkeepers alone, Essevee could actually request a postponement. The eight infected players include players who already tested positive last week – when seven infections were detected – but also new infections, such as those of the goalkeepers. Although it is not required by the Pro League per se, Zulte Waregem also had players who had already received a booster shot, but showed symptoms, undergo a PCR test. After last week’s outbreak, it didn’t want to take any risks. And that turned out to be a wise decision.

The players who are now in quarantine tested positive on Thursday morning, so that next week’s game will not be jeopardized for the time being. In the meantime, training continues with the fit players and Essevee continues to perform self and PCR tests at appropriate times. (tjm)
